Say bye bye to these money beliefs … and watch your business boom
Beliefs. They can seriously hold you back. Especially those we have around money. They get stuck in our heads, digging in like leeches draining our hopes and dreams. Keeping us poor. If you want to create a wealthy life, you have ditch negative beliefs around money.
Sadly, it is us female entrepreneurs who are hindered the most by these money beliefs. The media tells us we are going to die poor and alone. Some employers pay women less than their male counterparts. If you have kids and take time out to care for them, your super growth is stunted.
How many times have you said:
- Money does not grow on trees.
- It takes money to make money
- Another day another dollar
- Money is the root of all evil
- Money can’t buy you happiness
These are the money myths that will keep you broke. I say NO. I want you to be wealthy. By wealthy, I mean living a life filled with joy, happiness, and comfort. For you, that may mean having an impressive property portfolio, or a handful of properties mixed with shares, or paying more into your super … wealth is whatever you want it to be.
BUT … you must ditch the negative beliefs around accumulating that wealth. If you are in business, these money beliefs will be woven through your venture, limiting your growth, stopping you asking for what you are worth, putting up your prices, chasing outstanding invoices or being able to ask for the sale.
These beliefs stop women saving – choosing instead to rack up credit card debt, frittering away money on things that don’t appreciate. It stops women understanding numbers – think about how many women have said ‘I’m not good at maths.’
We don’t talk about it. Instead, we hide receipts, lie about how much things cost and avoid looking at our bank statements. The ‘experts’ have many reasons why women do this; it doesn’t matter. All that matters is ditching these limiting thoughts so we can get on with excelling in our businesses and creating our wealthy lives.
Before we go but smashing these money beliefs, let’s have a look at what money really is.
Money is something generally accepted as a medium of exchange, a measure of value, or a means of payment.
If money is about exchange, value, and payment. Are you not worthy of having more in exchange for your skills, expertise, and wisdom, for the value you give to your family, community and clients and to be paid accordingly?
Let’s strip these beliefs back and reframe them. When they pop up for you, replace that thought with these alternatives.
Money grows on trees
The ‘trees’ are your ideas … no one can take away from you your ability to create and come up with new ideas. Ideas that can make money.
It takes gumption to make money
Okay, so you’re not flushed with capital but guts, determination and ideas are oozing out of your pores. When you get out of your own way and embrace your value, money will find you. It is like the story of the guy riding the bike, flying down the hill thinking ‘I hope I miss the pothole’ over and over. Guess what he does? He hits the pothole and comes flying off his bike. You get what you focus on. Focus on abundance. Seek out mentors and advisors who can help you come up with strategies and plans to get the best outcomes.
Another day …and today I will make lots of dollars
What can you do today to get more clients, to grow your business, to branch out? Do you need to put up your prices (are you undervaluing your services?). Are there phone calls you can make? Is there a strategic partnership you can form to leverage your time?
Money is the root of all the good I can do
Be proud of what you are doing and the people you are helping. If you have employees, this means your business has grown and you need to help more people. If you have employees, it also means that you are making a difference in other family’s lives – helping them create their wealthy life. Having money means you can save for retirement or to tick of those dreams on your bucket list. More money means you can give to charity, helping other less fortunate than yourself. Money means you can give you family and you more options now and into the future.
Money gives me options
Money will not make you happy; you don’t make money to get happier. Look at the rich people who are miserable (they have own limiting beliefs to sort out) and the poor people who are happy without it. But having enough money does give you options. It allows you to live life on your own terms.
